Day 2: 15 February 2009 The day before, I had been aware of this place. An Island in the middle of the bay.

I was at Grace Cathedral and its attractions. Heard a male choir singing which kept the atmosphere peaceful despite the handful of tourists and worshippers present.

I remember searching for the Einstein stained glass. It was part of a tribute to people for human achievements in science and literature. The image on camera wasn't clear so below is just some stained glass, which story i did not remember. Also in picture are testimonies from victims of gun violence.

No time to bus to Pier 33 ( or isit 35)? Run. What was it-14 blocks north and 7 blocks east? Did i mention in the persistent rain. Thank god for the absence of uphill climbs.
From the pier, the boatload of us headed to Alcatraz. On the way caught a sight of Bay Bridge. The longest steel bridge in the world. The light rain still trickling from the sky and the wind chill made it preferable to stay off the deck.

Around the island, the chilly waters and maybe sharks.

Still present were cannons. Signs of the island's history as a military fortification to protect the enormous wealth in the Gold Rush. It was part of a three-point defence of San Francisco Bay.
Having a feel of my own cell. The audio tour was insightful and complemented the posters and visual artefacts marvellously. I enjoyed my stay there.
After the prison years, The Native Indians occupied the Island (1969-1971).

Now, it is landmarked as a National Heritage. As a National Park, it is home to the birds and according to the park ranger, many rare flora and fauna.

Below, tourists like myself admiring the beauty of the island.

I met up with Joshua and Amy and they took me to visit Lombard Street and Coit tower.
.jpg)
Coit tower is shaped like a fire hose.

We drove out of the San Fran area for dinner with Kah Onn and Rochelle.
.jpg)
Thanks KahOnn for driving me back to the hotel. The streets are dangerous at night and I was not prepared to deal with it alone.
