Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam

Day 4: 17th February 2009
6.55am
We set off early. As early as the sunrise. A power breakfast of hashbrown, bread with peanutbutter and butter, and coffee--in the car.
7.36am
Arrive at Hoover Dam. In 1940s, it was the largest electrical generator in the world.
7.42am
In the Transformer film, the dam was built around the All Spark to hide its energy signal. That was not what I was thinking off in the photo below.
9.25am
Stop in the middle of nowhere.
11.04am
Stop to top up gas.
11.23am
Travel my way, take the highway that's the best
Get your kicks on route 66.
2.03pm
Finally arrived at the South Rim. I was expecting a beautiful view and I was not disappointed. What I wasn't expecting was a biting cold. But that did not stop us from staring in awe and amazement. Below, taken at our second or third viewing point at the Grand Canyon National Park. Being careful not to slip on the ice.
2.10pm
Colorado River weaving side to side along reddish-brown slopes
2.11pm
Cutting deep gorges on the plateau. Leaving behind temples, shrines, castles on top.
2.13pm
The slopes expose a history of rock layers.
2.21pm
We must have been really high because the sky seemed like a ceiling within reach.
2.56pm
Last few minutes at grand canyon. Snow flakes had begun to fall. Far away, the beginnings of a thunderstorm. Shouting our goodbyes.
8.19pm
Night had caught up with us and full speed ahead towards vegas. The city lights looked like glittering gold and looks deceptively near.
Crazy fun road trip.
