We were late and the game at the Pacific Centre had already begun when we arrived. Seated far away from the rink, we cheered and jeered. Most loudly when the Giants players ram the opponent violently to the side or when the referee makes a bad call in favour of the hitmen.
An interesting must have in games are the entertainment in between intervals. Ranging from lucky draws to freebie giveaways. Below, a kiddie match is being played while some unnoticeable dancing takes place at the near rink.
Different from the NHL, the ultimate prizes are the Ed Chynoweth Cup. WHL is one of the three leagues making up the CHL. And the champions of each league together with the host team play for the Memorial Cup. Game on! The Calgary Hitmen and the Vancouver Giants are top of their conference and I had thought the game would prove to be full of excitement.
2nd period entertainment. Three contestants in a team in which two put on dog ears and drag the third team member in a sleighdog manner aroung the rink. Guys win girls by a hair.
Nearing the end of the game, there is no coming back for the Giants. 3-0 and they disappoint further by conceding a last minute goal.
Final score: Vancouver Giants 0 - Calgary Hitmen 4
